My thought on the article on P. 58 (Olmpic juggernaut) by Kats

It was China's biggest slogan to leave the Beijing Olympics successful. Their central Communist government seemed determined to make it successful at any cost. There was a huge revolt in Tibet months before the Olympics, but the Communist government somehow succeeded in containing "rebels." There was also a concern about influenza viruses spreading in a strange way, but the news also faded away almost spontaneously. I have a friend who was volunteering all through the big event, but like her, all international journalists were contained in a village and not allowed to report everything. Officially, or at least on the surface level, the Beijing Olympics was said to be successful, but many of those who were actually there have different views. It is ironic to see that there was such a huge gap between their fundamental principles and what was actually going on.
